Beach Trip Spain – Rota Beach – The Best of Our Costa de la Luz Road Trip

A spotlight on the city of Rota, Spain, which sits across the bay from Cadiz, the launching point for Christopher Columbus’ expedition all those years ago.

Rota is a charming little fishing village with a fantastic beach and excellent choices for food, hotels and beach bars.

In our last video, we set off from Portugal, rolled across the border to Spain and hit a few beaches along the Spanish Costa de la Luz en route to Tarifa – it’s worth checking out that video and visiting Tarifa if you are ever out that way, as it’s some of the finest beach water I’ve ever experienced. The windy point into the Straits of Gibraltar make the waves come back on you, too. Just awesome.

Back to this video, where we arrive at Rota and head straight to the Hotel Playa de la Luz before heading into town for dinner. The next morning we wake up to a fantastic beach day. After a morning walk on the beach, we roll into town for lunch and then hit the beach near the Hotel Duque de Najera, sister hotel to the Hotel Playa de la Luz.

We enjoy the beach for a little while, stroll through town, check out the old castle and then call it a day.

Enjoy the pleasures of Rota, Spain along with us!!!

Great Video. I fell in love with Rota back in the early 1970s when I was a young Marine Corps private at Marine Barracks Rota. I met and married a young, local senorita in 1974. We have three children, my oldest daughter having been born in Rota. We have been back many times and have stayed in both of the hotels you mention. I prefer the Duque de Najara because it is directly downtown (not to mention right on the best beach in Southern Europe,) and within walking distance of everything you could want on a vacation to Spain. My wife an I will be traveling back this June (during the 2018 World Cup) to enjoy the bar scene and wach the games on TV with our local friends. Well done on the video.

Watching this – closest I’ve been to homesick in a while.
